Molecules know when to collide
And the chaos it brings

When anyone comes into the world
They’re thinking the same thing

Like why did I even open my eyes?
And it seems like a long road

And my constitution is building a soul
What it looks like we just cant know

It’s alright
You’ll grow

Look alive
Look to anyone
Look to everyone that you know
And in time
Knowing better than
Thinking bigger than
What you know
Look around
And inside
And then you grow

Nailing down that feeling again
With the sun in your eyes

When everyone looks out at the world
They think of their own lives

And reality tells of connections abound
And it seems like a tall tale

But it fits like a puzzle and like it or not
It changes if you exhale

Is that so?
It seems like too much to know

Look alive
Look to anyone
Look to everyone that you know
And in time
Knowing better than
Thinking bigger than
What you know
Look around
And inside
And then you grow

Notes
Today I am reunited with an old friend: the banjo. Having reluctantly sold mine some time ago in a moment of financial peril, it has been nearly a year since I’ve had one on a Mount Everest song. My folks recently refurbished an old banjo that has been in our family for decades, and I just got my hands on it. I paired it up with a nylon stringed guitar and let the two instruments talk to each other. As today is the last day of the year, I wanted to write a song to talk about personal progress over time, and understanding the connectedness of the world. While the words definitely took a back seat to the music this week, I managed a few nice turns of phrase. Unfortunately, I don’t feel like I brought the choruses home the way I wanted to, but that is just life. I was a lot more interested in spending the holidays with my family than painstakingly crafting the perfect chorus. I’m pretty okay with it. Now I’m off to spend New Year’s Eve with amazing friends. I hope you’re doing the same thing. This is my favorite holiday. It is all about renewal and hope for the future. If that isn’t worth celebrating, I’m not sure what is.

P.S.
I sincerely hope your home is warm, your loved ones are safe and close, and all is well. To those of you who observe the holiday, Merry Christmas!
